DANIEL "SARGE" SEPULVEDA MIER was born in Smeltertown, TX. He was the eldest of four children born to Juan Angel Mier and Amalia Sepulveda. His siblings are Juan Angel Mier Jr., Carlos Mier, and Dolores Clark. He retired from Asarco after 33 years of service. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the U.S. Army Baseball team and excelled in golf and basketball as well. In addition, he was a successful amateur middle weight boxer. He played professional baseball with El Paso in the West Texas-New Mexico League in the 1950's. He participated in the Championship Flight of several local golf tournaments for years. In 2002, he received the Life Time Achievement Award from the Smeltertown/Buena Vista Golf Association. He and his sons won the Smeltertown Reunion Tournament in 1996. He was preceded in death by his grandson, J.P. He is survived by Olivina his loving wife of 53 years. His children include Amalia Mier-Claudio, Daniel Jr., Gilbert and Terri Mier, Ruben and Melissa Mier, Rosalinda and Norberto Madrid and David and Elizabeth Mier. His grandchildren are Denise Williams, April Thomas, Robert Jr., and Jennifer Claudio, Erika, Katherine and Alyssa Mier, Regina Ulloa, Chrissy and Philip Pina, Jeremy Daniel Mier, Amanda, Margo and Mary Mier. He is survived by 5 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family. A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 9 pm, Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Sunset Funeral Home-West, Chapel of Remembrance with a vigil at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 am, Friday, May 28, 2004 at Santa Teresita Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
