Pease vist the family tree on the Lozoya website at Lozoya Family Tree

Miguel,

Glad to hear from you and thank you for taking the time to browse through our family tree.  My son and I are also trying to find our roots. My father came from Mexico with the Lozoya last name however, my mother grew up in La Calavera and Buena Vista area. She knew many people from Smelter Town. She went to school in Corchense which was probably the only school in the area at that time. My mother’s maiden name is Carmen Sambrano and her parents were Adela and Urbano Sambrano. She was born in 1914 and is still living. Her memory is very sharp and still mentions many names of people in the area. I take her frequently through old Smelter Town area down Doniphan past Buena Vista and to La Union where she spent her teen years. When she lived in Buena Vista, she lived with her God Mother (Paula Hernandez) who took them in when mom’s father passed away. Later she moved to La Union. Every year she asks me to take her to the old Smelter Town Cemetery to take flowers to her father and God Mother who are buried there.

I think that probably your parents or grandparents would have lived there about the same time my mother was there. It is very interesting to piece all these stories together like a puzzle. Who were your parents and grandparents so I can ask her if she knew them?  I’ll bet she knows them since everybody knew each other back then!

Hope this story is of interest to you, we also enjoyed looking at your photo album of Smelter Town.

Thank You,

Pete Lozoya
