Maria de
la Luz Marquez Flores, age 96, joined our Heavenly Father and beloved husband
on February 6, 2009, in El Paso, Texas. She was born January 29, 1913 in
Smeltertown/El Paso, Texas to Miguel Prieto Marquez and Maria Garcia Marquez.
Luz was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Luis A. Flores. She was a
lifetime member of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America,
Corte Reina Isabela la Catolica 1581 for 28 years. Luz cherished her family and
loved the times spent around the table laughing and sharing stories. There was
always room for one more at that table, and numerous family members and friends
enjoyed her generous hospitality. Luz taught her family to love, respect and
cherish each other and always work hard to achieve their dreams. She took pride
in all that her children and grandchildren accomplished, and delighted in the
antics of her great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her
daughters: Gloria Flores, Alicia Valdez (Roberto), Jessie DeHoyos (Lupe), sons:
Luis Flores Jr. (Andrea), Ruben Flores (Tess), and Arturo Flores; sister Maria
Saavedra; grandchildren: Patricia Valdez-Rios, Robert Valdez Jr. Erin Flores
Ritter, Lindsey Flores Rounbehler, Adam Guzman (Laura), Jessica DeHoyos, and
Ramon Luis DeHoyos; great-grandchildren: Ashley Rios, Reagan Ritter, Kendall
Rounbehler, Aeneas and Marco Guzman and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends. Gentlemen with the Honor of serving as Pallbearers: Roberto Valdez
Jr., Ramon Luis DeHoyos, Daniel Rios, Boyd Ritter, Rob Rounbehler and Teddy
Ayoub. Honorary Pallbearers: Victor Marquez, Roberto Valdez, Lupe DeHoyos, Adam
Guzman and Armando Villalobos. The family would like to express their sincere
gratitude to Cynthia Avalos, Dr. Michael Annabi and Hospice of El Paso for the
loving care given our mother during her time of need. A special thank you also
to Mary Ann Hayes, Communion Minister at St. Patrick's Cathedral for
administering Holy Communion to Mom for so many years. Visitation will be held
on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral
Home-West, with a Vigil at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11th at St. Patrick's Cathedral, with Rev.
Pablo Matta officiating. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice El Paso
or the Catholic Daughters of America Scholarship Fund, 801 Magoffin, El Paso,
TX 79901. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler. Please
